Advanced Practice Provider Residency Program

The University of Kentucky is a Level I Trauma Center that provides care for the highest acuity patients in the region. As an advanced practice provider (APP) resident in the department of internal medicine's division of hospital medicine, the learner will have exposure to numerous health conditions and patients with multiple, complex comorbidities.

The resident will gain exposure to acutely ill patients with conditions such as respiratory failure, renal failure, advanced liver disease, solid organ cancer, malignant hematologic diseases, and post-transplant. Care is provided by a multidisciplinary team, and the resident will interact daily with physicians, other APPs, pharmacists, therapists, case managers, and subspecialists. The APP residency is a one-year certificate program that allows the resident to gain advanced hospital medicine experience in an immersive and supportive learning environment.

Testimonials

"The division of hospital medicine residency post-graduate program was an exciting opportunity for me. The year allowed for professional and personal growth as I transitioned into my new role as an APRN. I was able to build confidence and clinical skills under the guidance of both APP and MD mentors. I was exposed to a variety of complex patient situations that required critical thinking and diagnostic reasoning. While the year was challenging (physically, mentally, and emotionally) I am grateful to have been selected as a DHM resident." - Michele Bodine, APRN
