Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism

The Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism is staffed by 11 clinical faculty, 2 PhD faculty, and 6 APPs, and has a fully accredited fellowship program with 2 fellows/year x 2 years. The division provides clinical care in the ambulatory setting for all endocrine diagnoses and provides consultative services for inpatients admitted to UK Chandler, UK Good Samaritan, and the Lexington VAMC hospitals.

The division has an inpatient diabetes consultation team, and many diabetes educators providing needed clinical education in both the inpatient and ambulatory settings. The research activities of the division are focused mainly on diabetes and its complications including cardiovascular complications, bone diseases, and renal complications.

Faculty in the division participate in several Research Alliance groups and have a leadership role in the Research Priority Area for Diabetes and Obesity. The division partners with the division of pediatric endocrinology to operate the endowed Barnstable Brown Diabetes Center, which provides comprehensive clinical care, diabetes education, and research across the commonwealth of Kentucky.
