Favorite memory of residency so far: One of my favorite memories was when my PGY-3 class went to Asheville, NC! We got to go for 3-4 days prior to starting second year. We had the best time exploring the city, hiking together, and getting to spend time with one another outside of our day jobs.

Dream non-medical career: If I could do one thing other than medicine, I would have gone into ministry, been an athletic trainer, or a teacher/coach!

Why did you choose UK for MedPeds? I know that every program claims this, but UK MedPeds is a family, and it's a big one. From all the residents and faculty, plus all the former UK MedPeds graduates on staff here at UK, you will find a MedPeds friend wherever you go. Our PD, APD, and our program coordinator have done and will do anything for you to help make your goals and dreams possible. They are intentional and treat you like you're the only resident in the program. And of course, having grown up and lived in KY my whole life, I'm a big UK fan, so GO CATS!

I was drawn to the high reputation of med peds within the hospital, the high med/peds to categorical ratio giving a stronger med/peds presence (in attendings as well) and the high predicted mortality upon admission giving high quality training with sicker and more complex patients.

Why did you choose UK for Med-Peds? UK’s Med-Peds program has the reputation for producing exceptionally competent, driven, and kind doctors. Many of the program’s residents have stayed at UK to become beloved attendings and educators. Med-Peds docs are everywhere here – from categorical subspecialties and the ICU to general primary care. They were some of my biggest role models during medical school, so I followed their lead and stayed here for residency.

Did you have a career before medicine? Finished PhD in nutrition at UK.

Why did you choose UK for MedPeds? I love Lexington and want to pursue my career here. I was able to talk to a couple of UK MedPeds doctors. They were all great and I desire to become a physician like them.

Hobbies/Interests: I write poetry, love art, and started horseback riding last year. Memoirs are my favorite genre of books to read, and my two favorites that I’ve read so far are Marina Abramovic’s “Walk through Walls” and Edward Said’s “Out of Place.”

Career goals: I came into medical school convinced that I’d pursue a career in geriatrics, but I am not so sure anymore! I am curious about cardiology, and would love to care for the human heart, but am keeping an open mind!

Favorite place to grab a drink in Lexington: Not an alcoholic drink but I love the Weekly Juicery!

Favorite thing about living in Lexington: I love the personality that can be found in every corner of the city, the country roads and the farms, and especially the sunsets!

Your go-to weekend getaway: The horse farm!

Favorite memory of residency so far: I have loved my meaningful patient experiences of course! I also had a great time during my wards night shifts, when my fellow residents and I set up a table and painted canvases to decorate the workroom. We ate snacks, listened to music, and had a lot of fun!

Dream non-medical career: While I couldn’t imagine doing anything else, if I had more time, I would add on working in an art exhibit or working as a florist.

Why did you choose UK for MedPeds? I wanted to join a community, and I knew that the med-peds community we have here is warm, loving, and so supportive!

Why did you choose UK for MedPeds? I chose UK for MedPeds because of the amazing MedPeds residents that I met during medical school, the strong MedPeds culture, and the complexity of the patient population that we treat at UK!
